The 9th Youth World Flyfishing Championship will take place in the Slovak republic in August 2010

Slovakia is a small country in the heart of Europe 3 sides bounded by the Carpathy mountains and by the Danube river in the south. It consists of productive plains in the surrounding of Danube and of more than 2.500 m high shields of the smallest bigmountains of the world – High Tatras. The country has cca 6.000.000 inhabitants living in the area of 49.030 km˛. The capital city is Bratislava. Slovakia is a country rich in natural beauty and sightseeings.

The rights of fishing are secured by the Slovak Fishing Association, which has more than 100.000 members. Its seat is the town Žilina. It is possible to fish in the standing waters (e.g. barrages, gravell-barrages, old rivers „arms") and in the running waters of rivers Danube, Váh, Hron, Orava, Hornád, Nitra, etc.

The 2010 championship will take place from August the 3rd till August 9th , 2010 on rivers Váh and Belá in the area of the Town of Liptovský Hrádok and on the river Poprad in the area of the Town of Svit. These rivers have very good conditions for flyfishing. The water of competition area is 20-30 m wide and about 1,5 m deep. It has stone ground, grass-banks with the poplars and willows especially in its middle and upper part. In the river occur fishes like: brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, dace, breaked carp.

The official accommodation is booked in the ****Hotel Jánošík in the City of Liptovský Mikuláš. The city has a lot of cultural and historical sightseeings, natural beauties and caves around the city. On the barrage Liptovska Mara you can find suitable conditions for fishing of almost all species living in Slovak waters.
